The information and notes contained here are more up-to-date and therefore valid compared with information in the online help.

1.1       Overview of functions

The properties of the library Soft Starter 3RW44 PCS 7 Library V8.0 + SP1 for SIMATIC PCS 7 V8.0 + SP1 & Advanced Process Library V8.0 SP2 are in essence:

·        Entire conformity to the PCS 7 driver concept

·        Follows the motor blocks design of the PCS 7 APL Library

·        Faceplates based on the faceplate designer

·        Supports all 3RW44 soft starter control functions

The block library contains control blocks (SSOprtn), a measured-value block (SSMeas), a statistics block (SSStat) with corresponding faceplates for the integration of 3RW44 Soft Starters. The blocks support German and English. The user documentation is available in German and English.

The following are the blocks that support both PROFIBUS & PROFINET enabled 3RW44 soft starter devices.

1.2       New features and alterations compared to previous versions

This chapter gives brief information about the most important enhancements of Soft Starter 3RW44 PCS 7 Library V8.0 + SP1 compared to previous version.

1.2.1        What is new in Soft Starter 3RW44 PCS 7 Library V8.0 + SP1?

New features

1.      Support of Soft Starter PROFINET device.
The following functionalities are supported in SP1, for PROFINET devices

·        New diagnostic messages related to FW update and Energy saving functions has been added.

·        Log book data shall be read upon ‘ReadData’ request instead of cyclic update.

·        Logbook entries are displayed for each entry along with Time stamp <HH:MM:SS>

·        Module drivers for PROFINET device are updated in the objects and action lists for the driver wizard of CFC.

2.      Read/Write record error status is displayed at output parameters RdErrStat/ WrErrStat.

3.      Two reserve variables (“ReserveIn” and “ReserveOut”) have been added in all of the function blocks for maintenance purpose to avoid the interface changes in future releases.

Bug fixes

1.                The output parameters module fault SSDiag is reset correctly, when the device doesn’t report any more warnings or errors.

2.                Module driver files added to support integration of 3RW44 when the DP mode of PROFIBUS is “S7_compatible”.

3.                The Logbook data reading at SSStat is now acyclic. Reads data only on readdata request.

4.                The data reading of all datasets made acyclic in all the function blocks (SSOprtn, SSMeas, SSStat and SSDiag).

5.                Slow speed Reverse command is disabled when Group fault is active at device and Emergency start is not active.

6.                Control diagnostic data, Device diagnostic data, Parameter diagnostic data and Protection diagnostic data shall be updated upon read data request.

7.                Text at faceplate shall be displayed in English language when the WinCC configured language is other than German.

8.                Missing named interconnections for SSChn, SSOprtn blocks at Template have been added.

9.                The description of parameters at SSStat and SSMeas block has been aligned according to the Soft Starter manual.

10.             Incoming/Outgoing event data is displayed at Logbook view at SSStat.

11.             User authorization levels for “Delete Trips” and “Delete Events” buttons changed to Level6.

12.             “DiagDir” parameter name has been modified to “DiagOprtn” in SSDiag and SSOprtn blocks.

13.             When the Soft starter device is in Local mode, User has to Execute Read data command at SSOprtn faceplate to monitor the status of commands executed at Local mode.

14.             If Motor is running in Local mode and Process image output is not updated at SSOprtn function block, SSOprtn standard faceplate view displays the Motor On status.

15.             Additional diagnostic messages have been added related to Control, Parameter, Device and Protection diagnostics.

1.3       Information on the documentation

Information about how to use blocks is given in the Programming and Operating Manual for Soft Starter 3RW44 PCS 7 Library V8.0 + SP1. They can be found in the internet. Pleas follow this link: https://support.industry.siemens.com
and search for “
Soft Starter PCS 7”.

All information about working with the blocks can be found in online help. You can open online help in STEP 7 as context help for every block using F1 key or “question mark” button. The complete help can be reached via button “help topics” in the window of context help.

1.4       Information on the sample project

Once the library is installed, a sample project “Softstarter_Example “is made available in the following path

<drive>:\SIEMENS\Step7\Examples\

The project has the necessary configuration details and all the interconnections of blocks with its associated driver blocks. Hence the same can be used for reference.

The project has instances of signalling, channel and driver blocks (SSOprtn, SSDiag, SSMeas, SSStat and SSChn).
